Hi, my name is Sam, founder of Holistic Sleepy Sam. I have studied with the amazing Holistic Sleep Coaching Program written and run by Lyndsey Hookway.
When it comes to sleep I have been on a bit of a journey since having my children.
I was completely obsessed with getting my daughter to sleep through from the moment she was born. My daughter never liked to be put down (of which now I know is completely normal), and this really frustrated me as I thought there must be something wrong with her. I genuinely believed that there was one method that we have to buy into and my daughter would then just sleep through. I ended up trying sleep training and used cry it out methods and it was just completely heartbreaking and incredibly upsetting for both myself and my daughter to go through.
She did sleep through in the end but with a lot of stress and anxiety along the way.
Fast forward to 2020 when my son was born 4 weeks before the first lockdown and suddenly my daughter stopped sleeping… literally!
In the process it stopped me from obsession about my sons sleep, and went against everything I thought we shouldn’t do. I co slept, fed to sleep, had lots of contact naps, and he just fell into his own lovely routine in his own time.
With my daughters sleep issues, it made me realize sleep is incredibly complex and multifaceted. Its not one dimensional…with a tick list to follow and that every child, let alone every human is completely different.
Over time I started to understand the importance attachment and being a responsive parent is to sleep.
I do understand that my children are 2 very different individuals so their needs with sleep were always going to be completely different, but just simply being aware of this will help me to not over analyse or make me feel I or they are doing anything wrong. Sleep will come in its own time.
